How it works

Certification Process

KCS has a procedure of certification whether the activities of carbon reduction fulfill the requirements and review whether it is available to issue KCRs.
KCS is designed to monitor and verify the carbon reduction after registering the methodologies and PDDs.

The business plan approval process can be carried out simultaneously with the methodology registration process, shortening the certification period for project participants in terms of administrative convenience.

Certification Process of Methodology and PDD

Methodology and PDD approval process

  1. Step 1 Submitting the methodology and PDD

The project proponent may prepare required documents e.g. methodology (new or renewed) registration forms and PDDs, for quantified measurement of carbon reduction performance and submit them to the KCCI Center all year round. Meanwhile, verification by a 3rd party auditor is required to submit the documents to the KCCI Center.

  2. Step 2 Reviewing the methodology and PDD

The KCCI Center reviews the conformity of the applied documents e.g. methodology and PDD. The KCCI Center may utilize external experts for suitability review and request to the project proponent for separate supporting data if necessary.
Conformity review takes up to 30 days and may be extended once, if necessary. Due diligence, including on-site evaluation, may be conducted if necessary, during the review process. The KCCI Center may request improvement to the reduction business up to 3 times during the conformity review and request an additional 3rd party verification in process.

  3. Step 3 Deliberating the methodology and PDD

When reviewing the methodology and PDD is over, it is presented as an agenda to the Certification Committee. The Committee reviews the agenda based on the submitted documents and decides whether to approve it. If revisions to the methodology and PDD are deemed necessary during the deliberation process, the KCCI Center may request supplementation of data. The project proponent may check the deliberation results after the final deliberation is made.

The project proponent may prepare required documents e.g. monitoring report and registration application measuring volume of carbon reduction and submit them to the KCCI Center all year round. Meanwhile, verification by a 3rd party auditor is required to submit the documents to the Center.

  2. Step 2 Reviewing the monitoring report

The KCCI Center reviews the conformity of the applied documents e.g. monitoring report. The Center may utilize external experts for suitability review and request the project proponent for separate supporting data if necessary.

The KCCI Center may request improvement to the reduction up to 3 times during the conformity review and request additional 3rd party verification in the process.

  3. Step 3 Deliberating the monitoring report

When reviewing the monitoring report is over, it is presented as an agenda to the Certification Committee. The Committee reviews the agenda based on the submitted documents and decides whether to approve it. If revisions to the methodology and PDD are deemed necessary during the deliberation process, the KCCI Center may request supplementation of data.
